Ten Tors 2022

'After two year without a Ten Tors event, Cullompton Community College and Mid Devon Plodders enjoyed another successful weekend this year. Two 35 mile and one 45 mile teams were entered and all of them completed the event before the 5pm deadline on Sunday. The students were in high spirits the night before at base camp and following a 5am wake up on Saturday they made their way to the start line to form a '60' along with the 2400 other students to mark the 60th Ten Tors event. Impressive pictures of this were captured by drones. At 7am the canons went off and the students' expedition began. Nervous parents, staff and volunteers tracked the students online for the next two days and there was a fantastic atmosphere at the finish line welcoming all teams in. The 45 mile team and one of the 35 mile teams finished the event within 5 minutes of each other at around 12.45. The 45s were expertly led by Jakin Talbot and expert navigation was provided by Gemma and Jodie Dilks with Freddie Tancock, Grainger Davison and Edward Green making up the rest of the team. The 35 mile team was led by Bethany Lane and navigated by Thomas Trude, Freddy Morris with Edward Coles and Henry Luxton-Keough. A special mention must go to Becca Talbot who was a major part of the team but unfortunately had to come off on Saturday night following an ankle injury. Becca should be incredibly proud of how far she got and will hopefully return to try again next year. With two teams in, there was a nervous wait for the third who had got lost in the South-Moor mist early on Saturday morning. With a deadline of 5pm at the finish and a cut-off time of 4.10pm at the final tor, parents and staff were nervously looking at their watches and refreshing their mobile phones. At 4pm news came in that the team had reached their final tor with 10 minutes to spare and the team did a fantastic job to get to the finish line with 8 minutes to spare. This team was made up of B-May Shiach, George Barker, Martha Kirkham, Kobie Hooper, John Buczkowski and Nathan Reardon. A fantastic achievement by all the students who should be immensely proud of themselves. A big thank you to all the volunteers who make the training and event possible for all the students.
